Course Levels

 

Our courses are organised in 10x90min sessions.

The course material is provided for all students. We use the Schritte International Series by Hueber.

 

Classes higher than B1 level will be arranged according to demand with special focus on different topics (academic, business, culture, ...)

 

 

 

In this class we start from scratch. The basics you will learn in this course, will already enable you to "survive" in the German language, especially being able to say what you want to eat :-)

 

These topics will be covered:

 

- Introducing yourself and asking questions about others

- Greetings

- Filling in Forms

- Talking about your family

- Food / Going to the market

- Talking about your house/flat

- Spelling, Counting, Measurements, colours

 

Students will receive the course book Schritte International 1 (including audio CD) at the first session of the course. In this course the units 1-4 of the book are covered.

 

This course is ideal for anyone, who already knows some basics in the German language. Maybe you have studied GCSE German in school a long time ago? Maybe you have been teaching yourself some German or used an app such as Duolingo, but now feel it is time to study the language in a group, where you have the chance to speak it as well.

 

These topics will be covered in the class:

 

- Talking about your daily and weekly routine

- Telling and asking for the time

- Ordering in a restaurant / going shopping

- Talking about your hobbies, freetime

- Weather and seasons

- Talking about your skills

 

Students will receive the course book Schritte International 1 (including audio CD) at the first session of the course. In this course the units 5-7 of the book are covered.

At this time of your German-learning journey you are quite comfortable to spend a holiday in Germany, as you can express what you want in a variety of situations. Now it's time to develop skills for some more detailed and deeper conversation.

 

These topics will be covered in the class:

 

- Jobs and careers

- Communicating about your past and present experiences

- Visiting a city as a tourist (asking for and giving advice)

- Booking a hotel

- Asking for directions (and understanding directions)

- Health and the human body

- Describing people

 

Students will receive the course book Schritte International 2 (including audio CD) at the first session of the course. In this course the units 8-11 of the book are covered.

 

This course concludes the CEFR Level A1, this means:

“You can understand and use familiar, everyday expressions and very simple sentences, which relate to the satisfying of concrete needs. You can communicate in a simple manner if the person you are speaking to speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help.” - Website of the Goethe Institute

- Understanding written notes and phone conversations

- Requesting services

- Clothes

- Talking about what you like and dislike

- Making appointments

- Inviting guests

- Festivities and celebrations

 

Students will receive the course book Schritte International 2 (including audio CD) at the first session of the course. In this course the units 11-14 of the book are covered.

Having mastered the basics, in the following courses you will now learn to express yourself in a more sophisticated manner and understand more complex texts and conversations.

- Reasoning

- Talking about travel experiences

- Talking about locations (Grammar: Wechselpräpositionen)

- Speaking about the household

- Giving advice

- Conditions

- Phone conversations in the workplace

 

Students will receive the course book Schritte International 3 (including audio CD) at the first session of the course. In this course the units 1-4 of the book are covered.

 

Continuation from Upper Elementary 1.

 

 

The topics covered in this course include:

 

- Health and Fitness (Grammar: reflexive Verben)

- Emotions

- Phone Enquiries

- School System in Germany and talking about school memories

- Adult Education

- Giving presents

- Planning/Organising a party

 

Students will receive the course book Schritte International 3 (including audio CD) at the first session of the course. In this course the units 5-7 of the book are covered.

According to the European Framework of Reference, your level of German during this course will enables you to “understand sentences and commonly used expressions associated with topics directly related to your direct circumstances (e.g. personal information or information about his/her family, shopping, work, immediate surroundings). You can make yourself understood in simple, routine situations dealing with a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and common topics. You can describe your background and education, immediate surroundings and other things associated with immediate needs in a simple way.”

- Making suggestions

- Weekend activities and events

- Describing objects and products

- Comparisons

- Understanding unpersonal circumstances (Grammar: passive voice)

- Understanding traffic news

 

Students will receive the course book Schritte International 4 (including audio CD) at the first session of the course. In this course the units 8-11 of the book are covered.

 



This course concludes the basic level of German teaching. It is particularly suitable as a refresher course to students who have previously studied German to a high level (e.g. A-Level), but have not used it in a long time. This course prepares students to take part in the Intermediate level courses.
